Political Science SAMPLES

Below are assignments from a few Political Science classes I've taken at Syracuse. I've selected these specific projects to display as I feel they strongly represent and showcase my passion and skills in political science and writing in general. Additionally, these assignments were from some of my favorite PSC classes as I found the subject of these courses to be incredibly interesting yet significant to today's political climate.

Politics and Media

PSC 315

For my final research paper in my Politics and Media class, I wrote about fact-based vs. emotional reporting on social media during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. I chose my research question to ask: do social media posts from journalists and government officials discussing the pandemic, either biased or objective, directly affect the public's trust in the news? You will find research and insights supporting my central argument: in times of crisis, fact-based reporting is the most trusted style in receiving news rather than emotional-based reporting, due to its beneficial effects for the public as well as journalists.

Political Conflict

PSC 356

In my Political Conflict class (one of the classes I took in Spain during Fall 2019), I wrote my final paper on Brexit's impact on Northern Ireland. I begin the paper by introducing Brexit and how it's developed, as well as the history of Northern Ireland and its recent political and national struggles. Next, I explain in-depth the potential effects of Brexit on both the European Union and Northern Ireland. Lastly, I conclude my paper with future implications regarding the Brexit decision, and what it could mean for the EU and Northern Ireland.
